In Greek mythology, Persephone is goddess of vegetation and growth, associated with Spring. When she is abducted by Hades and tricked into eating six pomegranate seeds, she is forced to spend six months of every year in the Underworld. Her time there is associated with the colder months, where growth is halted and leaves are bare. In this abstract representation, she takes the pomegranate seeds and instead braids them into her hair, in an act of defiance, and despite the fiery reds and oranges signifying her current place in the Underworld, new growth and vegetation begins to creep in around her.
Printed using professional pigment inks on gallery-quality, textured fine art paper.
